About Digital Footprint Scan
Digital Footprint Scan helps ordinary people see what is exposed about them online, understand what it means, and decide what to do about it, without scare tactics and without handing over more personal data.
What we do
- A free breach check. Enter your email address on our homepage and we check it against the known data breaches recorded by Have I Been Pwned, then explain what was exposed and what to do next. We do not store the email address you check.
- Practical guides. Step-by-step guides to finding your information online, opting out of data brokers and people-search sites, and responding to breaches, browsable on our blog.
- Honest comparisons. When paying for help makes sense, we compare the options by price, coverage and country, in our data removal services comparison.
Who runs it
Siddharth Shankar
Founder, Digital Footprint Scan
Siddharth started Digital Footprint Scan to give people a clear, honest way to see what is exposed about them online, without needing to be a security expert. He is responsible for the site's research standards, its free breach check and the accuracy of the guides we publish.
How we research
- Opt-out steps come from each site's own opt-out or privacy pages wherever we can reach them. When a page is blocked to us, we say so on the guide and cross-check the steps against at least two independent sources.
- Statistics, fines and legal rules come from regulators, courts and official reports, and are linked in each article.
- Prices and features of paid services are taken from the provider's own pages and dated, because they change often.
- Guides show the date they were last updated. If something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will check it.
How we make money
Some links on this site are affiliate links. We currently earn a commission from NordVPN and NordPass if you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. Scan My Shadow is our sister service. We also mention services we earn nothing from, such as Incogni, DeleteMe and Optery, when they are the right answer. Nobody pays for a place in our rankings. What we do not do
- We do not sell, share or store the email addresses people check.
- We are not a data broker or a people-search site, and we do not build profiles of people.
- We are not a government agency, law-enforcement service or law firm, and our guides are general information, not legal advice.
