Good

  • Human-reviewed removal requests
  • Quarterly reports that show what was removed
  • Couple and family plans available
  • Offered in Australia, where Incogni is not

NordVPN Ultra

Best value if you also want a VPN (Canada and selected European countries)

NordVPN's Ultra plan includes Incogni data removal on top of the VPN, so you get the same removal service as our top pick plus a VPN and NordVPN's Dark Web Monitor breach alerts in one subscription. Ultra is only sold in some countries, so it is the right choice only if it is offered where you live.

Good

  • Includes Incogni data removal
  • VPN and breach alerts in the same plan
  • One bill instead of two

Watch out for

  • Not sold in the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands or Sweden
  • Only worth it if you will use the VPN
  • Choose the Ultra plan at checkout; other plans do not include removal

VariesPrice depends on your country and plan length. Check the current price at checkout.

Removal services do not fix leaked passwords

Data removal takes your details off broker and people-search sites. It does nothing about accounts exposed in data breaches. If your email has appeared in a breach, these are the two gaps to close as well.

If passwords were exposed

NordPass

A password manager that flags weak and reused passwords, and on its Premium plan scans for breaches and alerts you when your email or card details leak.

To hear about the next breach

NordVPN Dark Web Monitor

Every NordVPN plan includes Dark Web Monitor, which alerts you if your email address shows up in new leaks, so you can act before an old password is abused.

How we compared them

We compared each service on the things that decide whether it is worth paying for:

  • Where it works. A service that cannot act for residents of your country is no use to you, however good it is.
  • Coverage. How many data brokers and people-search sites it handles, and whether you can ask for sites outside its list.
  • Repeat removals. Brokers re-add people, so a one-off request is not enough.
  • Price for one person per year, and whether there is a free plan or a refund window.
  • Extras you may or may not need, such as identity insurance or a VPN.

Prices come from each provider's own pricing pages on the date shown at the top, apart from DeleteMe, whose prices we took from its published plan list as reported by independent reviewers. Providers change prices often, so the price at checkout is the one that counts. Rankings are editorial and are not paid for.

Do you need to pay at all?

No. Everything these services do, you can do yourself for free: find your listings, submit each site's opt-out form, and check back every few months. The catch is time. There are hundreds of brokers, and many re-add people after a while. These guides walk you through it.

Questions people ask

Do data removal services actually work?

They work for the sites they cover. They send legally backed removal requests and repeat them when brokers re-add you. They cannot remove information from sites outside their list, from news articles, or from public records at the source, and they cannot delete a breach that has already happened.

Which data removal service works outside the US?

Incogni covers the UK, Canada and the EU as well as the US. DeleteMe also offers service in the UK, Canada, Australia and some European countries. NordVPN's Ultra plan, which includes Incogni, is sold in Canada and selected European countries. Optery, Aura and EasyOptOuts focus on the US.

Is a VPN a data removal service?

No. A VPN hides your connection, not the details brokers already hold about you. The exception in this comparison is NordVPN's Ultra plan, which bundles Incogni data removal with the VPN.

Will my information come back after removal?

Often, yes. Brokers buy fresh data and re-create profiles. That is why ongoing services repeat their requests. If you do it yourself, recheck every few months. See what to do when removed information reappears.

Should I check what is exposed before paying?

Yes. Start with our free breach check to see which known data breaches include your email, then decide whether broker removal, password changes, or both are what you need.

Not sure what is exposed yet?

Run the free check first. It shows which known data breaches include your email and what to do next. We do not store your email address.
