TL;DR

Find your Spokeo profile, copy its exact URL, open Spokeo’s official opt-out form, paste the profile URL, enter an email address, and confirm the request through the verification email. Spokeo generally processes the removal within 24–48 hours after verification. If you have multiple listings, repeat the process for each one.

Before you start opt-outs, see which known data breaches already include your email.

Spokeo is a people-search site that turns information from public records and other data sources into searchable profiles. Depending on the record, a profile can connect a person’s name with addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives and other identifying details.

The important distinction is that opting out removes the Spokeo listing itself. It does not erase the underlying public records or remove the same information from other people-search sites and data brokers.

What a Spokeo profile shows

A Spokeo people-search profile can contain a mix of identifying and contact information, depending on what sources are available for that person. Common fields include:

  • Full name and possible name variations
  • Current and previous addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses
  • Age or age range
  • Relatives and associated people
  • Other public-record or commercially sourced information linked to the profile

Where Spokeo gets this information

Spokeo says it aggregates information from a range of sources rather than relying on information you personally submitted to Spokeo. These can include public records and other commercially available data. That is why a profile can exist even if you have never created a Spokeo account.

Opting out is not the same as deleting the source data. Removing a Spokeo profile prevents that listing from being displayed by Spokeo, but the underlying public records may still exist and may be used by other people-search sites.

Removal is one half of the job. Check whether your email has leaked as well.

How to remove yourself from Spokeo

1Find your Spokeo profile

Go to Spokeo and search for yourself using your name and location. Open the result that matches you and check the details carefully before submitting a removal request.

2Copy the profile URL

Copy the complete URL from the browser address bar while viewing the exact Spokeo profile you want removed. The opt-out form uses this listing URL to identify the record.

3Open Spokeo’s official opt-out form

Go to spokeo.com/optout. This is Spokeo’s official opt-out page. Paste the profile URL into the form and provide an email address you can access.

4Submit the request

Submit the opt-out form. Spokeo uses email verification to confirm the removal request, so use an inbox you can access immediately.

5Confirm through email

Open the confirmation email from Spokeo and click the verification link. The removal request is not complete until you follow that link.

6Wait for the listing to be removed

Spokeo generally processes an opt-out within about 24–48 hours after email verification. If you have more than one profile, repeat the process for each listing because each profile has its own URL.

How to confirm it worked

After the processing window, search Spokeo again using the same name and location. Open the old profile URL if you saved it. The listing should no longer be publicly available. If the profile is gone on Spokeo but an old result still appears in Google or another search engine, give the search engine time to refresh its index.

Watch for reappearance. Spokeo receives new and updated information from its data sources, so a listing can return later. If you find a new profile after removal, submit that specific profile URL through the opt-out form again.

Does removing Spokeo remove me from other sites too?

No. Removing a Spokeo listing affects Spokeo. It does not automatically remove matching records from other people-search sites, data brokers, public-record databases or search engines. If your goal is to reduce your overall exposure, you need to identify and handle the other sources separately.

That is the difference between removing one profile and doing a broader data-broker cleanup.

Spokeo opt-out FAQ

Is Spokeo removal free?

Yes. Spokeo provides a free online opt-out process for removing a public profile from its people-search results. You do not need to buy a subscription to submit the basic opt-out request.

Do I need a Spokeo account?

No. The public-profile opt-out process is separate from having a paid Spokeo membership.

How long does Spokeo removal take?

Spokeo generally processes the request within about 24–48 hours after you complete the email verification step.

What if Spokeo has more than one listing for me?

Repeat the process for each profile. Because the opt-out form identifies the specific profile URL, different listings should be submitted separately.

Will removing Spokeo remove my information from Google?

Not immediately. Google can continue showing an indexed result for a page that Spokeo has already removed. Search results normally need time to refresh.

Can my Spokeo profile come back?

Yes. If Spokeo receives updated or newly matched information from its data sources, a new or refreshed listing can appear. Periodic rechecking is worthwhile.
