How to Blur Your House on Google Maps Street View
Street View photographs your home for anyone to see. Google lets owners and tenants request a blur, but the blur is permanent, so decide first.
Only the owner or tenant of a home can ask Google to blur it. Open the Street View image of your home, click Report a problem, choose My home, confirm the certification, upload proof of address and submit. The blur is permanent. Google says the blurred image is also excluded from generative AI prompting from then on, but AI imagery created earlier by others is not affected. Documents are deleted after 60 days.

Street View images show your house, car and sometimes you. Google offers a request to blur them. This guide follows Google’s Maps help page and covers what you need before you start.
Who can request it
Google says only the owner or tenant of the property can make the request. You can ask to blur your home, your vehicle or your full body. Choose the option that matches what you want hidden.
Know that it is permanent
Once Google blurs the image, it cannot be undone. Think about it first. A blurred house can make it harder for friends, delivery drivers and visitors to find you, and could draw attention in the image itself. Google also says the blurred image is excluded from generative AI prompting from then on, but AI imagery that third parties made earlier is not affected.
Removal is one half of the job. Check whether your email has leaked as well.

Steps to request the blur
1Find your home in Google Maps
Search your address and open the Street View image of your home.
2Click Report a problem
It is at the bottom right of the Street View screen.
3Select My home
Choose the option that matches what you want blurred.
4Tick the certification box
You confirm that you own or rent the property.
5Upload proof of address
Add a document that shows you live there (see the next section).
6Enter your address and submit
Check the details before you send.
Proof of address that Google accepts
- A utility bill, bank statement or letter dated within the last six months
- A lease of any age
- Homeowners insurance
- Property tax records
Redact your name and account numbers before uploading. Google does not accept handwritten documents, government IDs or documents that show only a P.O. box. Files must be under 10 MB and in PNG, JPG or PDF format. Google says it deletes the documents after 60 days.
What blurring does not do
- It does not remove your address from the internet. Your address can still appear in property records and on people-search sites. See how to remove your address from the internet.
- It does not change other services. Other map providers and archived copies keep their own images.
- It does not stop people who already have the old images.
Before you request, take a screenshot
Capture the current Street View image of your home. It helps if you need to explain what you want blurred, and it lets you see exactly what others currently see. It also helps you decide whether the image reveals anything beyond the house, such as a car, a gate code on a keypad or your face.
Think about visitors and deliveries
A blurred house is harder to recognise at a glance. If friends or delivery drivers rely on the image to find you, consider giving them a clear description of your entrance or a house number. Weigh the convenience against your safety concern, remembering that the change is permanent.
Other images of your home
Street View is not the only source. Real estate listings, satellite views and old photographs from a sale can show the same property. If the main worry is who can find you, work through the other steps in this guide’s related articles rather than relying on one fix.
When it is most useful
People with a safety concern, such as stalking, harassment or doxxing, often want this. If that is your situation, read what doxxing is and how to protect yourself and address confidentiality programs.
Google may change its form, so follow the labels you see on the Maps help page.
