How to Delete or Deactivate Your Truecaller Account
Closing your Truecaller account and removing your number from its search are two different things. Do both if you want your number gone.
In the Truecaller app, go to Settings, then Privacy Center, then Deactivate and confirm. But a published guide notes that after deactivation people can still search your number, so you also need to unlist it using Truecaller’s unlisting page. Removal may take up to 24 hours. Menus change, so follow the labels in your app.

Many people install Truecaller to identify unknown callers and later realise their own name and number are searchable by strangers. Removing yourself takes two steps, and people often do only the first.
Deactivating the account is not the same as unlisting
Deactivating closes your use of the app. Unlisting asks Truecaller to stop showing your number in its search. A step-by-step guide from Beebom points out that after the account is deactivated, users can still search your number and find information about you, which is why the unlisting step exists.
Step 1: Deactivate the account
1Open the Truecaller app
Go to Settings.
2Tap Privacy Center
You will find it near the bottom of the Settings screen.
3Tap Deactivate
Confirm by tapping Yes.
The Beebom guide was written for Android and published in 2019. iPhone users should check whether the labels match, and everyone should expect that menus have been updated since.
Removal is one half of the job. Check whether your email has leaked as well.

Step 2: Unlist your number
1Open the unlisting page
Use Truecaller’s unlisting page in a web browser.
2Choose your country
Pick it from the list.
3Enter your number with the country code
For India, this means +91 before the ten digits.
4Complete the captcha and submit
Click Unlist Phone Number. The guide says removal may take 24 hours.

What to expect afterwards
You may notice more unknown calls, because you no longer benefit from Truecaller identifying them. The guide suggests relying on your phone’s built-in spam filtering, which it describes as less effective. Check that you have registered for your country’s do-not-call service. In India, see Sanchar Saathi for checking connections in your name.
Before you deactivate
Think about what you rely on the app for. If you use it to identify unknown callers, you will lose that once your account is gone. Your phone may have its own caller ID and spam filter, and your mobile provider may offer call-blocking tools. Set those up first so you are not left without any protection.
Why your number can come back
Caller ID directories like Truecaller are widely reported to build their listings in part from contact books that users share with the app. If someone who still uses the app has your number saved, your number can appear in the directory again. Check again a few weeks after unlisting, and repeat the request if needed.
A quick checklist
- Deactivate the account in the app.
- Submit the unlisting request for every number you use.
- Wait a day, then search for your number in a private browser window.
- Check again in a month.
- Look at other places your number may be listed, such as people-search sites.
If you use more than one number
Each phone number is listed separately. If you have a second SIM or an old number you still use, repeat the unlisting request for each one, and keep a note of the date you submitted it.
Keep the request evidence
Take a screenshot of the confirmation after you submit the unlisting form. If your number is still shown after a few days, you will have a record to refer to when you contact support.
Other places your number may be listed
Truecaller is only one place. Caller ID apps, people-search sites and data brokers also list numbers. Use our guides on checking where your phone number is listed online and what an exposed phone number means.
