How to Make VSCO Private: What Is and Is Not Possible

VSCO’s help centre says it does not currently offer private profiles.

Updated October 22, 2026
TL;DR

According to VSCO’s Support Center, VSCO does not currently offer private profiles, and content posted to your profile is public. Media in your Studio is private unless you publish it. Private Spaces are invite-only, are not searchable, and can only be reached through the shared link. To limit exposure, keep unpublished work in Studio, share through a private Space, and choose a username that does not identify you.

Many guides tell you to switch a VSCO account to private. VSCO’s own help page says that setting does not exist. Here is what the company says is and is not possible.

No private profile

VSCO’s Support Center article “How To Manage Your Content”, dated June 23, 2026, says: “While we don’t currently offer private profiles, private Spaces are a great way to collect your content in a private place.” It also says that content posted to your VSCO profile is public.

That means anything you publish to your profile can be seen by other people. There is no switch that hides the profile from everyone except approved followers, the way there is on Instagram or TikTok.

Your Studio is private

VSCO says all media located in your Studio is completely private unless you choose to publish it to VSCO. You can import and edit photos there without them appearing on your profile.

Private Spaces

A Space is a place to collect content. VSCO says private Spaces are invite-only, are not searchable on VSCO, and can only be accessed with the shared link. Owners can moderate contributors and remove content. Contributors and viewers can still report content that may break the Community Guidelines.

Note the catch with a link-based space. Anyone who gets the link can open it, so treat the link like a password and share it only with people you trust.

A safer way to use VSCO

  • Keep editing work in Studio and publish only what you are happy for strangers to see.
  • Put anything personal in a private Space, and share the link with named people.
  • Leave your full name, school, workplace and town out of your bio and captions.
  • Choose a username that is not used on your other accounts, because a shared handle links them. See what people can find from your username.
  • Strip location from photos before you post. See how photos reveal your location.

For parents

Because there is no private profile, a young person’s public posts are visible to anyone. Talk through what should and should not be published, and use our parents’ guide.

What this means in practice

If you want only friends to see your work, VSCO’s own help page points you to private Spaces rather than a locked profile. If you want a profile that only approved followers can see, look at an app that offers it, because VSCO does not say it can do that. Decide before you publish, because anything on a public profile can be viewed and shared by others.

App settings change often. VSCO’s help article is the place to confirm whether private profiles have been added since this page was written.
