PeopleFinders is a people-search site. It states that its results draw on public records such as address and phone number, age and birthdate, census records and criminal history. The opt-out removes the profile from PeopleFinders. It does not erase the records behind it.

How to remove yourself from PeopleFinders

1Search for your name

Run a person search on PeopleFinders using your name and the state or city that is most likely to match you.

2Open the matching profile

Find your name in the results and click View Profile. Check the details carefully. If several profiles are yours, for example an old address, note each one.

3Copy the profile address

Copy the full web address of your profile from the browser address bar. The opt-out form identifies the record by this address.

4Paste it into the opt-out form

On the PeopleFinders opt-out page, paste the profile address into the form and continue. The page asks for the profile address.

5Click the verification link

PeopleFinders sends an email with a verification link. Clicking it confirms the opt-out request, so use an inbox you can open right away. Requests can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The opt-out only covers PeopleFinders. The company says it cannot control websites owned by others, so the same details can remain on other people-search sites.

What the opt-out page does not say

The PeopleFinders opt-out page does not state a processing time and does not say whether a removed profile can reappear. Keep the profile address and the date you verified the request, and look again after a few days.

Removal is one half of the job. Check whether your email has leaked as well.

Checking the result

Open the profile address you saved. If it still loads after a reasonable wait, repeat the request and keep a screenshot. A profile can also linger in search engine results for a time after it is removed. See why removed information can still appear in search results and how to verify a removal.

Questions or problems

PeopleFinders directs questions to its Customer Care team and its FAQ. If a request fails, what to do when a data broker removal request fails covers the next steps.

Keep going

Removing one profile does not stop the same details showing elsewhere. Continue with How to Remove Yourself From People-Search Sites, and see what to do when removed information keeps reappearing if a profile returns.
